Holt House: Before Demo and Construction

October 21, 2018

Before the extensive renovation, restoration, and addition to Holt House begins, the house stands as it has for the past few decades. The original buildings - the brick main house and summer kitchen, and the log smokehouse - were thought to have been completed in the 1830’s, while the various wooden porches, connectors, and additions were built during the following decades. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 which documents an abbreviated history of the house and property along with photos of the house as it stood in 1988 (see listing here). The photos below from 1988 show the house at its most “complete” - with all porches and additions still intact. The western addition and some porches have since been removed and the other additions have fallen into disrepair.
